Apparently there's some 'myth' that the AIDS epidemic is the deadliest disease outbreak in US history? We Answered:
AIDS actually is not THAT common at all (in the US)... YET is soooo tramatic because 1. you die from it 2. it is preventable. Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world... but many types of cancer have no prevention (aside from people smoking)... AIDS affects the body and has psychological consequences... many people w/ aids could have prevented it... (not all but many) this can cause depression and suicide... Also if you were given a choice between dying from AIDS or Cancer... many would pic cancer because there is such a negative cloud around AIDS... AIDS is one of the LEAST common STD's... HPV has many many more "victims" by in some cases HPV is treatable and curable...Jeremy Said:
What would you do in an outbreak of disease? ?We Answered:
That question is so broad and unspecific that one can not really answer it without corollary after corollary. What I would do totally depends on the what the disease is. If it is a human-to-human contractible H5N1 influenza A virus, I'd take a leave of absence from my job and head to the woods with everything I could load into my car. I'd give the same answer about ebola or dengue fever.Based on "Level 4, Virus Hunters of the CDC," (great book), you:
1) Understand the symptoms.
2) Quarantine.
3) Identify route of transmission.
4) Help those affected with medical supervision.
5) Collect samples from individual at various levels of infection.
6) Document disease progression.
7) Develop a treatment or other approach to reduce transmission.

Which population might be least likely to be devastated by a new disease outbreak? We Answered:
The answer is B a large genetically diverse population. This is because the more people the less chance of everyone contracting a new disease. Also, by being genetically diverse there are chances that some could be resistant to the disease or immune do to natural selection.Allison Said:
