Function Of The Immune System
Hugh Said:
What is the primary function of the Immune system? We Answered:
Primary function is to fight off pathogens (things that can harm your body if they get inside).Major organs: thymus, bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen.
Diseases: autoimmune diseases (immune system attacks self) are multiple sclerosis, lupus, and many others. Any disease has an effect on the immune system though.

Need to eat to lose weight / keep immune system functioning? We Answered:
He is right. If you don't eat enough food, your body is going to suffer over time. Even when your not eating, your digestive system is constantly working to keep your other systems going. You have to eat enough so you can have enough fat to convert into energy. If you don't eat enough fat, then your body will take energy from other parts from your body that you need! This takes a while for it to get that bad, but it will happen. To lose weight, all you have to do is just burn more calories than you eat!

How can I improve my health and the function of my immune system? We Answered:
It sounds as if you have some sort of nutrient deficiency. Do you eat enough nutritious foods? Being vegetarian your Iron stores could be low. Zinc and Vitamin C contribute to wound healing so if you don't have enough of that then your body could suffer. Eat loads of pulses, lentils, fruit, green leafy veg (for vitmain B which will benefit you greatly), grains. If you are deficient in vitamins and minerals then it could be useful to take a supplement to make sure you're getting enough.Jerome Said:
What body system is needed to help the immune system function? We Answered:
The circulatory system primarily. The lymphatic system has an important role also. The white blood cells "read" what type of protein or foreign body is invading the body and then makes cells specific for that bacteria, virus or whatever.God bless.
