Crohn's Disease Pregnancy

Crohn's Disease and Pregnancy?

We Answered:

I have Crohn's and have a 5 year old, and am 10 weeks pregnant.
I do have a mild case and am also in remission, but have had absolutely no problems and was not early with my first. I did and do find that I am a bit constipated but I think that is pretty normal for pregnancy too.
I think you will be fine. Just talk about your concerns with your doctor.

How does infliximab affect a baby during pregnancy?

We Answered:

It's classed as 'category C' which means that there isn't enough data to give you a proper answer. From what they know how infliximab works, it could harm the baby, they aren't 100% sure.

Category C =
"Drugs that, owing to their pharmacological effects, have caused or may be suspected of causing harmful effects on the human fetus or neonate without causing malformations. These effects may be reversible. "

Basically, you will need to discuss this with the doc. Maybe you can change to a different treatment for the pregnancy or if your Crohns is mild they might get you to drop it altogether.

Tracy Said:

Are these symptoms of pregnancy or are they completely coincidental?

We Answered:

Both of my pregnancies were different from each other. I had the typical symptoms: nausea, tenderness of breast, sensitivity to smells, cravings, etc. with the first pregnancy. With my second one I didn'tt have as much symptoms, but like you I had alot of spotting. Now..I need to back up a little. Eight weeks before the second pregnancy I had a miscarriage that I also spotted with. My OBGYN was able to give me some medications for the next pregnancy to help me stop bleeding. So my suggestion to you is, that if you have any reason to believe you might be pregnant to see your doctor soon so the pregnancy can be confirmed and the bleeding can be monitored if it continues. Good luck to you and I hope you and your husband are pregnant. Its a wonderful experience to have !!!

What could be going on?

We Answered:

If you are not pregnant then it could be a hormonal imbalance. When your hormones are out of balance it can cause you to not ovulate or to have a period. You should go to the doctor though, and make sure it is not something more serious.

Anna Said:

Is this implantation bleeding and if so would a pregnancy test come back positive or is it still too soon?? ?

We Answered:

The test wouldn't show BFP this soon. If it is implantation bleeding, you need to give it about two days for the HCG to release into your system before you would show positive on the test.

I had faint pink when I wiped on Monday evening and a little bit on Tuesday morning. I took a test on Tuesday monring anyway and it was BFN.

I haven't had any more spotting (unusual for me-I tend to spot all the way up to AF), so I tested again this AM and got BFP!!!!

So! Wait two days and then test! Much dust to ya!!

Discuss It!
