Autoimmune Disease Doctors

Juan Said:

Yesterday my daughter had 27 bruises that popped up out of nowhere.. the doctor says its autoimmune disease?

We Answered:

Hi, I had ITP twice. First in my teens then in my early 20s. Both times the doctors thought it was just a 'fluke.' They treated me with steroids (prednisone) and it resolved.

For me, this was not the end of the story. I went on to have a blood clot in my leg, at which point they found I also have a blood clotting disorder and Lupus (another auto-immune disorder). In fact, the episodes with blood disorders were actually Lupus flare-ups. Your daughter is too young for Lupus, though!

Hopefully this may be a one time incident for your daughter, but to be on the safe side, she should have her blood work monitored for other auto-immune issues.

Even with these diagnoses, I have a normal life and rarely any problems.

You are in my thoughts and prayers as you walk through this with your daughter.

Sara Said:

Why dont the doctors tell me the truth about my health?

We Answered:

Wrong doctors. You need a doctor who deals with bio-identical hormones. He should have you take a saliva test to check your free-hormone levels.

My guess is your progesterone is low and your other hormones may be low as well, but out of balance.

The doctor can get you on the proper hormone balance and when you next get pregnant, he will put you on progesterone only.

Please look in your yellow pages for a doctor who deals in bio-identical hormones.

Brett Said:

If I suffer from one type of autoimmune disease, is it likely that I'll be susceptible to others?

We Answered:

Autoimmune diseases cluster that is if you have one there is an increased chance that you will develop another.

Armando Said:

How does someone contract autoimmune disease?

We Answered:

Autoimmune diseases are disorders in which an inflammatory reaction is caused by the body's own immune system attacking tissues.

Scientists believe multiple factors such as environmental toxins, heredity, viruses, and certain drugs may play a role in causing an autoimmune disease. Stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, abuse of alcohol and use of tobacco can also weaken the immune system and may play some role as well.
