Alzheimer's Disease Genetics

Shane Said:

Do you think this is fair?

We Answered:

It's kind of hard to answer...a good question. I think that if you remove the incentive to make money, that may hinder science even further. I think I would support limiting the time on that patent, even further. Or maybe classifying a couple of diseases each year that are exempt, such as breast cancer, or AIDS.

Babies and Genetics: To Change or Not to Change?

We Answered:

In this particular case, I would chose to alter her genetic make-up. My ex-husband & I both have genetic predispositions for obesity. We struggle with our weight every day, and I would give almost anything to have NOT passed this on to my son. But we did. He struggles with his weight, too.
I also have to say that I fear the consequences of frequent genetic alterations. Where will we draw the line? Designer babies for everyone? What if a deaf couple wants their baby to be deaf like them? Will we alter genetic codes then? It seems very complicated and a little scary. We could have a situation like in the movie, "Gattaca."

Steven Said:

can you rephrase this essay?

We Answered:

The Human Genome Project has allowed researchers to understand the blueprint for building a person. Now, Scientists should have an obligation to explore every avenue of genetic make up.
Researchers are learning more about the functions of genes and proteins. Genes, Dreams, and Reality: The Promises and Risks of the New Genetics, an article in the Indiana law journal, claims that this knowledge has had, and will continue to have, a major impact in the fields of medicine, biotechnology, and the life sciences.
(name of professor), a professor of English at the University of Memphis agrees. He stated on his blog daredreaam.com, that it allows doctors and scientists to look for any flaws in the human genes and DNA in order to find out if people will have any future diseases or conditions that could affect them. It will be possible for mothers of new born babies to find out the risks of diseases or conditions as they get older.
(name of article author), states in New Gene Tests Tell Us? From Judges' Journal of the American Bar Association, that Gene testing already has improved lives. Certain gene tests can be used to clarify a physician's diagnosis, as well as determine the appropriate treatment for the patient. In addition, parents can have the option of knowing whether or not their children will be born with devastating medical disorders. Those who are at risk for preventable diseases may also find out before the disease has struck.
The successes of the human genome project have even enabled researchers to pinpoint errors in genes that cause or contribute to disease. The ultimate goal is to use this information to find new ways to treat, cure, or even prevent the thousands of diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, and cancers that afflict humankind.

Leslie Said:

Could someone critique my philosophy paper?

We Answered:

Sorry but I think you're all over the place. There is no order or logical flow to your thoughts.

May I suggest that you pick two or three issues that relate to this question, take a stand, then provide two or three supporting arguments to your stand. This should result in a page or so which will be more than enough to pare down to 700 words.

[an edit of you first paragraph or two]
.
According to Fritz Allhoff (who is he? in what paper?), cloning is deemed unacceptable because the clones age more rapidly than the “non-cloned” population. This argument is flawed (because??).

But research on this subject implies that cloned creatures do not always have a shortened lifespan and that it is possible that clones could even have longer lifespans.

Above I've tried to clean up your first paragraph or two. You have major problems in sentence and paragraph structure as well as logic. You need to go to your university's tutorial center for assistance as soon as possible. They can provide specific help that will be far better than anything I or anyone else on line can provide.
.
.I hope this helps. Good luck.
